Sphynx är en pälslös kattras som blir allt vanligare. Bara bilden av en Sphynx väcker ofta starka känslor, allt ifrån total fascination och förälskelse (som i mitt fall) till raka motsatsen.

Inte helt pälslös

Sphynxen är i själva verket inte helt pälslös. Kroppen är täckt av fint fjun och kort fin päls kan förekomma på på tassar, i ansiktet, baksidan av öronen, på pungen och på svanstippen.

En personlighet utöver det vanliga

Sphynxen har en personlighet utöver det vanliga, de är intelligenta, kärleksfulla, nyfikna, energiska, sällskapliga och att de fungerar mycket bra med barn och hundar.

Bastet

Sphynx kommer inte alls ifrån Egypten som namnet antyder (Se Historia). En av anledningarna till att rasen fick sitt namn sägs vara dess likhet med den egyptiska gudinnan Bastet.

I Egypten är Bastet katternas skyddsgudinna. Hon anses också skydda hemmet och kvinnor samt bringa njutning och lycka. Bastet är även sammanknippad med solens kraft och värme.

Sphynx is a hairless catbreed that is becomming more and more usual. Just the picture of a Sphynx often evokes strong feelings, everything from total fascination and falling in love (as with me), to the opposite.

Not totally hairless

The Sphynx is actually not totally hairless. The body is covered in short, fine down and soft, fine hair is allowed on the feet, in the face, at the back of the ears, on the scrotum and on the tip of the tail.

A personality out of the ordinary

The Sphynx has a personality out of the ordinary, they are intelligent, loving, curious, energetic, social and they get along easy with children and dogs.

Bastet

The Sphynx breed is not at all from Egypt as one could think (see History). The reason the breed got its name is said to be because of its resemblance with the egyptian goddess Bastet.

In Egypt Bastet is the patron god of cats. She brings pleasure and joy and is also thought of as the protector of women and the home. Bastet is affiliated with the warmth and power of the sun.
